MONTEREY PARK, Calif. – The University of Redlands Swimming teams currently sit in seventh and eighth place within the men's and women's team standings heading into the final day of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships.
Men
The Bulldogs increased their point total by 70 to 190 points. They are 66 points clear of Whittier College and within 17 of California Lutheran University. They still hold an outside shot of fifth place Occidental College who has 238 points.
Redlands had a strong day in the backstroke with Garrett Krattiger (Helena, MT) was the runner-up in the 100 Back with a time of 49.71. His preliminary time of 49.55 is an improvement of his second fastest time in program history.
The other two Bulldogs in the 100 Back were Memphis Gile (Redlands, CA) and Flynn Bayne (Seattle, WA). Gile swam a 51.35 finishing ninth with the sixth fastest time in program history. Bayne posted a 52.36 in prelims, the 10th fastest. He took 13th in the final with a time of 52.70.
The Bulldog 400 Medley Relay team of Krattiger, Davis Wingard (Springfield, OR), Ethan Chir (Las Vegas, NV), and Gile had a podium finish, taking third, after combining for a 3:23.60, the third fastest in the race and program history.
Women
The Bulldog women sit in eighth place with 118 points. They are within 24 points of Whittier through 29 events.
Kileigh Ackerman (Evergreen, CO) swam a 52.35 placing 13th in the 100 Back. Her best time, though, came in the prelims where she swam a 59.27, the eighth fastest in program history.
Ackerman led the quartet of herself, Lina Matera (Hingham, MA), Abby Springer (Paso Robles, CA), and Avery Wells (Seattle, WA) to a seventh place finish in the 400 Medley Relay. They swam a 4:05.03.
The Bulldogs complete the fourth and final day of the championship tomorrow with prelims in the morning and finals in the evening.
