VENTURA, Calif. – Bulldog Men's Golf transfer Jay Wing (Riverside, CA) shot three sub-70's including a program record-tying 64 as he took home the individual title at the CA State Intercollegiate coupled with the University of Redlands men's golf team finishing in fifth place with an 858 (282-291-285).
Round 1 & 2 (5th - 573)
The Bulldogs trailed Whitman College, Pomona-Pitzer, California Lutheran University (CLU), and Chapman University with a 573 (282-291) after 36 holes.
Wing was the leader with a 131 (64-67). His first round 64 ties John McCord from the spring of 2015 for the lowest single-round score in program history. His 67 is the 22nd-lowest score. He had 14 birdies and a bogey across the two rounds.
Another new addition to the Bulldogs Logan Benintend (Carlsbad, CA) was tied for 20th with a 143 (71-72). He had an Eagle on 18 in round one and had another Eagle on 14 in round two. He added four birdies and sat one-under.
Ben Tieu (Tualatin, OR) was tied for 40th with a 149 (72-77). Four of his five birdies came during round one.
Cohen Gladheim (Sherwood, OR) was tied for 43rd with a 150 (75-75), William Rinehart (Denver, CO) was tied for 54th with a 154 (77-77), and Himmat Singh (Santa Barbara, CA) is 58th with a 159 (78-81).
Round 3 (3rd - 285)
During the final 18 holes the Bulldogs shot a 285, the third lowest team total of the day.
Wing again dominated, shooting another 67 as he added six birdies to only one bogey. He finished his first tournament as a Bulldog with a 198 (64-67-67).
Tieu shot a 69 and improved his finish by 15 spots as he took 25th. He had a 218 (72-77-69) across the three rounds. He had a 5-2 birdie to bogey ratio in round three.
Benintend finished 30th with a 221 (71-72-78). He began his day with two birdies before a string of nine bogeys across 12 holes moved him down the leaderboard.
Gladheim tied with Benintend with a 221 (75-75-71) as he advanced 13 spots on the leaderboard. He had a very clean day with 15 pars, two birdies, and a bogey.
Rinehart shot a 232 (77-77-78) and was tied for 53rd. He had two birdies. Singh came in 57th with a 239 (78-81-80). He only had five bogeys, but two were doubles.
Redlands will head to Florida next this weekend for the NCAA Fall Preview hosted by Oglethorpe University on Monday-Tuesday, September 22-23.
