The No. 21 University of Redlands women's soccer team
(5-1-1, 2-0 SCIAC) ended a dream run for the University of La
Verne, winning by a final score of 4-1 on Sept. 24.
Led by senior forward Erica Jahn's (Davis, CA) two goals, the
Bulldogs hung four goals on the Leopard defense. Jahn struck first
in the 24th minute off of a pass by sophomore defender Breann
Puchalski (Redlands, CA) and knocked in her second goal of the
match just four minutes later off of a feed from senior forward
Becky Willis (Escondido, CA).
Sophomore defender Chelsea Hafley (Redlands, CA) scored off of a
direct kick in the second half to give Redlands the 3-0 advantage,
scoring her first goal of the season.
La Verne put up its only goal of the match off of a penalty kick
taken by Morgan Melanson, sneaking a ball past junior goalkeeper
Tenley Rawlings (Salt Lake City, UT).
Closing out the scoring was freshman forward Kaily Benenati
(Denver, CO) who scored off of a Hafley pass in the 62nd minute of
play.
Rawlings saved three shots for the Bulldogs in goal, allowing just
one goal off of the Melanson penalty kick.
Tatiana Gutierrez saved five shots for the Leopards and surrendered
all four Bulldog goals.
Redlands continues on with play in the Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) with a match on
Saturday, Sept. 27 as the Poets of Whittier College travel eastward
for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
