Hosting four games of the Cal Baptist University Lancer Invite
on Sunday, the Bulldog women's water polo faced off against
Colorado State University and Concordia University – Irvine
in non-conference action.
In the opening game, Redlands came up one goal short of
defeating Colorado State, 4-5. The team gained two goals from
senior driver Claire Quinn (Fresno, CA), while senior center Jen
Caron (San Dimas, CA) and freshman driver Joy Corona (Lake Forest,
IL) each added one. Patrolling the goal for the Bulldogs, junior
goalkeeper Whitney Schieler (Porterville, CA) made six stops.
Later that day, Redlands took on NAIA opponent Concordia and
again fell by just one goal, 6-7. Freshman driver Kelli Moy
(Honolulu, HI) led the team with two goals. Senior center Sam
Greenawalt (Riverside, CA), sophomore driver Tory Haynes (Valley
Center, CA), Quinn, and freshman center Jaime Nippert (Gresham, OR)
each put one away for the Bulldogs. Schieler came up with nine
saves in the loss.
In the other tournament games, Iona College took down Azusa
Pacific University by a score of 13-7, and then Cal State San
Bernardino defeated APU, 16-3.
The Bulldog women's water polo team (8-13) opens Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition
on Saturday, March 28, with an 11 a.m. game against the Beavers of
Caltech at the Thompson Aquatic Center.
