The University of Redlands baseball team had little trouble
handling Caltech on Friday in Pasadena, walking away with a victory
by a 23-3 final.
A 12-run Bulldog second broke the game open, and the Beavers were
unable to recover from the deficit.
Senior outfielder/catcher Kyle Rizzo (Redlands, CA), freshman
infielder Ben Saunders (New River, AZ), freshman first baseman
Terry Dempsey (Pinetop, AZ), sophomore outfielder Brandon Owashi
(San Diego, CA) and senior outfielder Jordan Snider (Temecula, CA)
all batted a perfect 2-for-2 from the dish. Rizzo scored two runs
and batted in two, Saunders crossed home plate twice and drove in
one, Dempsey plated a run and scored once, Owashi pushed across
four runners and Snider notched three RBI and two runs.
Additional multi-hit outings came from senior utility player Will
Wetmore (Santa Cruz, CA), senior catcher Brett Sandford (Santa
Barbara, CA) and sophomore outfielder Joe MacMillan (Pasadena,
CA).
Receiving the starting nod for the Maroon and Gray, freshman
pitcher Josh Snyder (Englewood, CO) pitched five innings of shutout
baseball, allowing just four hits and striking out five.
Redlands (18-11, 8-5 SCIAC) entertains Caltech tomorrow in an 11
a.m. doubleheader at The Yard.
