The University of Redlands women's water polo team lost in
each of its two games on Sunday in Redlands. The Bulldogs fell to
Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, 7-12, in the morning before suffering a 5-8
defeat at the hands of Cal State San Bernardino in the
afternoon.
Two Sagehens notched three goals apiece as the Bulldogs could not
quell a potent Pomona-Pitzer offense. Sophomore driver Jordan McKee
(Apple Valley, CA) found the back of the net twice while freshman
driver Moana Tuipulotu (Lahaina, HI), freshman driver Lindsey
Zehner (Portland, OR), freshman center Mandy Nussbaum (Bellevue,
WA), freshman center Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA) and sophomore
driver Casey Sripramong (Glendale, CA) notched one score each.
Senior goalkeeper Whitney Schieler (Porterville, CA) and junior
goalkeeper Tiana Singley (Benicia, CA) split time in net, combining
for three saves.
The Maroon and Gray staged a comeback in the waning minutes of the
afternoon tilt against the Coyotes, but Cal State San
Bernardino's offensive surge to start the second half proved
insurmountable. Sophomore center Jaime Nippert (Gresham, OR)
supplied a team-high two goals while freshman driver Georgia
Tunioli (Riverside, CT), Zehner and Moore each rattled the back of
the cage once. Schieler stopped a game-high seven shots protecting
the Bulldog net.
Redlands (0-2) travels to UC San Diego this weekend for the Triton
Invitational. The event takes place on Saturday, Feb. 6, and
Sunday, Feb. 7. The Bulldogs contest San Diego State University in
the West Pool at 11:10 a.m. on Saturday morning. Based on that
result, they will play again on Saturday at either 4:30 p.m. or
5:50 p.m. in the West Pool. Sunday's opponents and game times
are to be announced.
