The University of Redlands men's basketball team rolled
past the visiting Beavers of Caltech in tonight's Southern
California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) game by a
score of 100-73, hitting triple digits for the second time this
season. Redlands gained at least three points from all 14
players in the game, with five of them breaking into double
digits.
After a 7-7 tie, the Bulldogs went on a 21-4 run to earn a sizeable
lead they never relinquished. Although the Beavers cut it to 12 a
few minutes later, Redlands remained in control throughout the
half, making it a 27-point advantage at the break.
During the second half, the Maroon and Gray utilized a variety of
players to bring the score to 100-73 at the final whistle.
Redlands gained 12 points each from junior guard Justin Sobczyk
(Palm Desert, CA), junior guard Kent Ervin (Bend, OR), and junior
center Jordan Sanvictores (Redwood City, CA). Sanvictores also
pulled down a team-leading 10 rebounds and Ervin added six assists.
Junior forward Matt Dietrich (Phoenix, AZ) chipped in 11 points and
freshman guard Brian Kuklok (Poway, CA) scored 10 points. Junior
guard Patrick Keating (Fountain Hills, AZ) provided seven assists
and four steals.
Caltech looked to freshman forward Mike Edwards (Canyon Country,
CA) to tally a game-high 32 points. Junior forward Ryan Elmquist
(Woodbury, MN) added 13 points as the Beavers' only other
double-digit scorer.
Overall, the Bulldogs shot 54.8% from the field, while the Beavers
put up a 38.6% showing.
Redlands (11-9, 7-2 SCIAC) heads to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on
Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. showdown against the Sagehens. With
tonight's win and Pomona-Pitzer's loss to Whittier,
Redlands now sits in sole possession of second place in the
conference standings.
