Bulldog Women's Water Polo Splits Results at Redlands Mini-Tournament No. 2

The University of Redlands women's water polo team hosted the second Redlands Mini-Tournament of the season on Sunday at the Thompson Aquatic Center and garnered an 8-6 win against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in non-conference action while suffering a tough 8-10 loss to Cal State Northridge.

Against the Athenas, the Maroon and Gray rallied for an 8-6 victory to start the tournament off on a positive note. The team looked to a well-balanced attack with seven different players finding the back of the net. Sophomore center Jaime Nippert (Gresham, OR) led the Bulldogs with two scores, while freshman driver Moana Tuipulotu (Lahaina, HI), sophomore center Jamie Paul (Boring, OR), freshman driver Georgia Tunioli (Riverside, CT), sophomore driver Joy Corona (Lake Bluff, IL), freshman driver Lindsey Zehner (Portland, OR), and freshman driver Jill Stein (Palm Desert, CA) each tallied a goal. Senior goalkeeper Whitney Schieler (Porterville, CA) made five stops while patrolling the Bulldog cage.

In other action, Cal State Northridge thumped Colorado State by a score of 11-1. Colorado State then rallied back for a 10-7 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Redlands returned to the pool at 3 p.m. for a non-conference showdown against Cal State Northridge, which sits at No. 10 on the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Varsity Poll. The Bulldogs faced an early deficit but battled it out with the Matadors before suffering an 8-10 loss. Nippert continued to lead the Redlands offense with four goals, while Tuipulotu added two scores. Junior driver Chandler Weeks (Palm Desert, CA), and freshman center Mandy Nussbaum (Bellevue, WA) each provided one goal in the defeat. Schieler continued to patrol the goal for Redlands by making five saves.

Redlands (3-7) returns to action on Friday, March 19, when it serves as a host of the Cal Baptist Lancer Tournament. The Bulldogs take on Fresno Pacific at 3 p.m., which is followed by a 6 p.m. showdown against Division III foe Macalester College (MN).
