The University of Redlands women's water polo team defeated
Fresno Pacific University, 8-7, before blasting Macalester College
(MN), 21-9, at the CBU Lancer Invite on Friday afternoon at the
Thompson Aquatic Center.
Sophomore center Jaime Nippert (Gresham, OR) scored four goals
against the Sunbirds as Redlands edged Fresno Pacific in its first
of four CBU Lancer Invite games. Sophomore center Jamie Paul
(Boring, OR) rattled the back of the cage twice, while freshman
drivers Georgia Tunioli (Riverside, CT) and Jill Stein (Palm
Desert, CA) provided one goal apiece. Guarding the Bulldog net,
senior goalkeeper Whitney Schieler (Porterville, CA) stopped five
shots.
The evening game featured a lopsided affair as the Bulldogs
thrashed Macalester. Freshman driver Moana Tuipulotu (Lahaina, HI)
energized the Redlands offense with four goals, while Nippert,
sophomore driver Joy Corona (Lake Bluff, IL), Tunioli, junior
driver Tory Haynes (Valley Center, CA), freshman center Rebecca
Moore (San Diego, CA), senior driver Jade Valenzuela (Indio, CA)
and Stein each offered a pair of scores. Freshman drivers Kara
Parker (Houston, TX) and Lindsey Zehner (Portland, OR) and freshman
center Mandy Nussbaum (Bellevue, WA) rounded out the Bulldog
goal-scorers. Schieler split time in between the pipes with junior
goalkeeper Tiana Singley (Benicia, CA) and freshman goalkeeper
Cecile Gernez (Mountain View, CA). The Bulldog netminding trio
combined to make five saves.
Redlands (5-7, 0-0 SCIAC) wraps up its CBU Lancer
Invite slate tomorrow (March 20) at the Thompson Aquatic Center.
The Bulldogs start their day off with a 10:30 a.m. contest against
Azusa Pacific University before facing off with George Washington
University (DC) at 3 p.m.
