The University of Redlands women's water polo team lost to Azusa
Pacific University, 12-13, before downing George Washington
University (DC), 10-9, on the second and final day of the CBU
Lancer Invite Saturday at the Thompson Aquatic Center.
Sophomore center Jaime Nippert (Gresham, OR) found the back of
the net on four occasions against the Cougars, but the Azusa
Pacific offense turned to four different multi-goal contributors to
defeat the Bulldogs in the first game of the afternoon. Sophomore
center Jamie Paul (Boring, OR) and sophomore driver Joy Corona
(Lake Bluff, IL) each chipped in a pair of goals, while freshman
drivers Moana Tuipulotu (Lahaina, HI) and Georgia Tunioli
(Riverside, CT), junior driver Chandler Weeks (Palm Desert, CA) and
freshman center Mandy Nussbaum (Bellevue, WA) all scored once.
Senior goalkeeper Whitney Schieler (Porterville, CA) stopped eight
Cougar shots, but it was Azusa Pacific's Shannon Oliphant who was
the difference in the contest. Oliphant made a game-high 11 saves
protecting the Cougar net.
Nippert poured in another four goals against George Washington,
while Corona supplemented Nippert's offensive output with three
scores of her own. Tuipulotu, sophomore center Jamie Paul (Boring,
OR) and Tunioli accounted for the Maroon and Gray's other three
goals. Schieler kept the Bulldogs alive against the Colonials,
stopping a game-high nine shots guarding the Redlands cage.
Redlands (6-8, 0-0 SCIAC) looks to even its record on Friday
(March 26) and Saturday (March 27) when it travels to the Claremont
consortium for the annual Claremont Convergence Tournament, hosted
by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. The
Bulldogs take on Chapman University at 10 a.m. on Friday, followed
by a 2 p.m. matchup with Iona College (NY) later on in the
afternoon. On Saturday, the team contests Whittier College at 9
a.m. and Cal Lutheran University at 2:20 p.m. Redlands' Friday
games occur at the Axelrod Pool on the Claremont McKenna College
campus, while the Maroon and Gray's Saturday games take place at
the Haldeman Pool on the Pomona College campus.
