The University of Redlands women's water polo team defeated
Whittier College, 8-6, before losing to Cal Lutheran University,
5-13, at the Claremont Convergence Tournament at Pomona College's
Haldeman Pool Saturday in Claremont. Both games did not affect the
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC)
standings as they were designated as non-conference bouts.
Sophomore driver Joy Corona (Lake Bluff, IL) and freshman driver
Jill Stein (Palm Desert, CA) revved up the Bulldog offense against
the Poets, each rattling the back of the cage on three occasions.
Both sophomore center Jaime Nippert (Gresham, OR) and freshman
driver Moana Tuipulotu (Lahaina, HI) rounded out Redlands' scoring
with one goal apiece. Senior goalkeeper Whitney Schieler
(Porterville, CA) turned away 12 Poet shots to help the Maroon and
Gray pull out the narrow victory.
Redlands could not solve Meredith Butte in the afternoon tilt
versus the Regals, as Butte found the back of the net six times in
Cal Lutheran's triumph. Freshman driver Kara Parker (Houston, TX),
Tuipulotu, sophomore center Jamie Paul (Boring, OR), Stein and
freshman center Rebecca Moore (San Diego, CA) accounted for all of
the Bulldogs' goals. Schieler made four stops in between the pipes
for the Maroon and Gray before junior goalkeeper Tiana Singley
(Benicia, CA) took over and halted one shot.
Redlands (8-10, 0-0 SCIAC) travels a few miles down the road to
San Bernardino on Wednesday (March 31) for a 4 p.m. non-conference
matchup with the Coyotes of Cal State San Bernardino.
