The University of Redlands women's lacrosse team wrapped up a
nine-game home stand with a 15-7 victory over Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opponent Whittier
College on Wednesday night at Farquhar Field.
Although it took 12 minutes for either team to score, the
Bulldogs drew first blood with an unassisted goal by sophomore
attack player Ashley Finke (Austin, TX).
The Poets tied it up with a goal of their own just 24
seconds later.
However, Redlands responded with back-to-back scores as freshman
attack player Aimee Dewan (Alamo, CA) provided a goal and an assist
on these plays.
With 14:03 remaining in the first period, Whittier converted a
free-position shot to cut the Bulldogs' lead to one.
During the next four minutes, Redlands rattled off two more
goals to extend its lead to three. Junior midfielder Christy Smith
(St. Louis Park, MN) found the back of the net and then Dewan
connected off an assist by senior attack player Diana Frey (Silver
Spring, MD).
Although the Poets posted another goal with just over eight
minutes left on the first-half clock, Redlands entered the
intermission with a 5-3 lead.
The second period saw an offensive explosion by the Bulldogs,
who rattled off five unanswered goals by five different players in
less than six minutes. During this span, Smith and senior
midfielder Haley Kern (Portland, OR) each provided a goal and an
assist for the Maroon and Gray.
Whittier fought back with two scores, cutting the lead to five
at 16:19, but Redlands continued to find the back of the net en
route to the solid victory. Sophomore Megan Pricket provided a hat
trick in the final 16 minutes, while senior attack player Anna
Moriarty (Oak Park, IL) supplied a goal and an assist.
Freshman midfielder Katie Colasurdo (Eugene, OR) corralled a
game-leading five draw controls for the Bulldogs.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ana Martinez (Pleasanton, CA) racked up 10
saves between the pipes in a complete game.
