The University of Redlands women's water polo team held off
Whittier College in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (SCIAC) action Wednesday afternoon at the Thompson
Aquatic Center, winning by a 14-10 final.
The Bulldogs held a 12-5 lead heading into the final stanza, but
the Poets made it interesting, outscoring the Maroon and Gray by a
5-2 margin in the fourth quarter. Redlands, however, had built up a
sizable enough lead in the early minutes of the contest to stave
off Whittier.
Sophomore center Jamie Paul (Boring, OR) led all scorers with
four goals, while sophomore center Jaime Nippert (Gresham, OR)
buried three. Freshman driver Moana Tuipulotu (Lahaina, HI) and
freshman center Mandy Nussbaum (Bellevue, WA) each provided two
scores apiece, while junior driver Chandler Weeks (Palm Desert, CA)
and freshman drivers Lindsey Zehner (Portland, OR) and Jill Stein
(Palm Desert, CA) all rattled the back of the cage once. Guarding
the Bulldog net, senior goalkeeper Whitney Schieler (Porterville,
CA) made nine saves before giving way to junior goalkeeper Tiana
Singley (Benicia, CA), who stopped one shot.
Redlands (11-12, 2-2 SCIAC) is next in action on Saturday
(April 17) when it travels to Axelrod Pool in Claremont to face
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges in a SCIAC clash. Game time is set
for 7 p.m.
