The University of Redlands women's water polo team struggled
against Occidental College Saturday morning in Eagle Rock, dropping
a 5-11 decision to the Tigers in a Southern California
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) clash.
Freshman driver Moana Tuipulotu (Lahaina, HI) was the lone
Bulldog to find the back of the net more than once, scoring two
goals. Freshman drivers Lindsay Zehner (Portland, OR) and Georgia
Tunioli (Riverside, CT) and sophomore center Jaime Nippert
(Gresham, OR) added one goal apiece to spell out Redlands' tally.
Senior goalkeeper Whitney Schieler (Porterville, CA) made a
game-high-tying nine saves protecting the Bulldog cage.
Julie Monday and Corinne Casey accounted for more than half of
Occidental's scoring output, burying three goals each.
Redlands (13-13, 4-3 SCIAC) now awaits the announcement of the
pairings for the 2010 SCIAC Championship Tournament, which will
occur from Friday (April 30) through Sunday (May 2) on the Pomona
College campus. The Bulldogs will square off against
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Friday, but times of the
first-round games have not yet been announced.
