The University of Redlands women's water polo team lost to Cal
Lutheran University, 7-16, in Southern California Intercollegiate
Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action Wednesday afternoon at the
Thompson Aquatic Center.
The Regals outscored the Bulldogs by a 5-0 margin in the first
quarter, but the Maroon and Gray fought to keep the Cal Lutheran
advantage at five in the second stanza thanks to a last-second goal
by freshman driver Moana Tuipulotu (Lahaina, HI).
With 3:32 left in the third quarter, Redlands had cut the
deficit to three at 6-9, but the Regals pulled away from that point
forward. Cal Lutheran would close out the game on a 7-1 run.
Sophomore center Jaime Nippert (Gresham, OR) and Tuipulotu keyed
the Bulldog offense, scoring three goals apiece. Sophomore driver
Joy Corona (Lake Bluff, IL) accounted for the only other Redlands
score of the contest.
Jane Galluzzi and Joy Cyprian paced the Cal Lutheran attack with
four goals each.
In between the pipes for the Maroon and Gray, senior goalkeeper
Whitney Schieler (Porterville, CA) stopped six shots before handing
the netminding duties off to junior goalkeeper Tiana Singley
(Benicia, CA) late in the fourth quarter. Singley did not record
any saves on the afternoon.
Redlands (9-12, 0-2 SCIAC) will celebrate its two seniors on
Saturday (April 10) when the team squares off with the University
of La Verne. Game time is set for 11 a.m. at the Thompson Aquatic
Center.
