The University of Redlands women's water polo team competed in the always-exciting Claremont Convergence Tournament on Friday and Saturday, posting a solid 3-2 performance against opponents from all levels.
On Friday, the Bulldogs cruised to a resounding 20-4 victory over Chatham University (PA) on Friday before coming up short against the 12th-ranked Anteaters of UC Irvine by a score of 6-17.
Saturday's contests began with a rude awakening when No. 7 Arizona State University dealt Redlands a 4-18 loss to start the day.
However, the Bulldogs responded with an impressive 8-4 win over NAIA foe Concordia University – Irvine, followed by a 15-11 decision against St. Francis College (NY).
During the tournament, junior center Jaime Nippert (Gresham, OR) and sophomore driver Moana Tuipulotu (Lahaina, HI) recorded goals in all but one game, with Nippert leading the charge with 12 total scores. Tuipulotu added nine, including a five-goal outburst against Chatham. Eleven different players found the back of the net at least once in this contest.
Nippert and junior center Joy Corona (Lake Bluff, IL) each supplied a four-goal effort against St. Francis.
Overall, freshman goalkeeper Julie Lupfer (San Diego, CA) racked up a team-high 30 saves with her career-best performance of 13 stops coming against Concordia.
Redlands (8-3) looks forward to hosting Marist College (NY) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
