The No. 29 University of Redlands women's tennis team rolled to an 8-1 victory over the Beavers of Caltech in Saturday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) match. The Bulldogs nabbed an early 3-0 lead after doubles and then cruised to victory with five dominating wins in singles.
During the doubles matches, the No. 3 tandem of sophomore Amanda Alvarez (Pomona, CA) and freshman Paige Press (La Jolla, CA), and the No. 2 duo freshman Jessica Ly (Torrance, CA) and sophomore Julia Galbraith (Tacoma, WA) both dominated their counterparts with 8-1 victories. Seniors Rachael Miller (Newport Beach, CA) and Sara Yoshinaga (Honolulu, HI) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 showing at the top slot.
In singles, Redlands dropped only one game in its five victories, with Yoshinaga and Ly finishing first to secure the team's win. Press, Galbraith and Alvarez also scored points for the Bulldogs.
Redlands (4-1, 2-0 SCIAC) looks forward to a tough stretch of non-conference matches at Verdieck Courts, beginning with No. 23 University of Texas-Tyler on Saturday at 11 a.m.
