The University of Redlands women's water polo team honored the Class of 2011 with two victories on Saturday. After a short pre-game ceremony, the Bulldogs nearly blanked the visiting Beavers of Caltech in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) contest, as eight players scored two or more goals in the 21-1 win. Redlands took to the road for the second contest, prevailing in a 10-9 overtime thriller against Division II foe Cal State University San Bernardino.
Benefiting from a well-rounded offense and a stingy defense, Redlands amassed an 11-0 halftime lead over the Beavers.
Sophomore driver Lindsey Zehner (Portland, OR) paced the Maroon and Gray with four netters. Ten other Bulldogs found the back of the net in the victory, including senior drivers Tory Haynes (Valley Center, CA) and Chandler Weeks (Palm Desert, CA) with two apiece.
Senior goalkeeper Tiana Singley (Benicia, CA) and freshman stopper Julie Lupfer (San Diego, CA) shared time between the pipes, accumulating five and two saves, respectively.
Against the Coyotes, Redlands needed overtime for the third time this season. In addition, this marked the fourth 10-9 decision in the Bulldogs' last six outings.
Junior center Jaime Nippert (Gresham, OR) led the team with four goals, while junior center Joy Corona (Lake Bluff, IL) and Weeks backed her with two apiece.
Lupfer patrolled the Redlands cage by making five stops in the victory.
Redlands (18-9, 4-1 SCIAC) hosts Occidental in Wednesday's 7 p.m. SCIAC dual match at the Thompson Aquatic Center.
