The University of Redlands women's water polo team fell to the visiting Tigers of Occidental College in Wednesday's Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) home season finale by a score of 6-9.
As of yesterday's NCAA Division III poll, Oxy remained as the No. 1 team for the 14th consecutive week, with Redlands slipping down one spot to No. 3.
During last night's contest, Occidental got on the score board first and put the Bulldogs in a two-goal hole. But Redlands battled back, knotting the score at three apiece at halftime.
The Maroon and Gray kept the Tigers in check through the early minutes of the fourth period until Oxy enjoyed a 4-1 run to end the competition.
Freshman goalkeeper Julie Lupfer (San Diego, CA) offered a strong performance between the pipes for Redlands, collecting nine saves on the evening.
Junior center Jaime Nippert (Gresham, OR) led the Bulldog offense with two netters, while four others found the back of the net on one occasion.
With last night's loss and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' victory over the University of La Verne, Redlands slips into a tie for third place in the SCIAC standings with one regular-season game to play.
Redlands (18-10, 4-2 SCIAC) heads to Las Flores Park on Saturday for an 11 a.m. SCIAC dual match against the seventh-place Leopards of La Verne.
