Box Score The University of Redlands women's lacrosse team jumped into Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) competition with its season-opener on Wednesday against Occidental College, earning a solid 13-7 victory in Eagle Rock. After trailing 2-4 at the 18:42-mark of the opening stanza, the Bulldogs fired off 11 unanswered goals with six different players finding the back of the net.
Sophomore midfielder Jacky Craycraft (Trabuco Canyon, CA) initiated the Maroon and Gray's scoring, converting a free-position shot just 1:05 into the game.
The teams traded goals in the first few minutes, but then Occidental surged ahead with back-to-back scores to make it 4-2.
However, that was the only motivation that the Bulldogs needed, who unleashed 11 consecutive scores to make it 13-4 with 13:50 remaining in the second half. During this stretch, junior attack player Crystal Painter (Lake George, NY) found the back of the net on four occasions, while Craycraft and senior midfielder Megan Pricket (Poway, CA) registered two apiece. Senior attack player Blair Callaghan (Tacoma, WA) and Prickett provided assists as well.
Senior goalkeeper Ana Martinez (Pleasanton, CA) patrolled the Redlands net with nine saves in her season debut.
Redlands (1-0, 1-0 SCIAC) heads to No. 19 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday for an important SCIAC showdown against the Athenas at 1 p.m.
