UR Women's Basketball Wears Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness on Feb. 9

The University of Redlands and Bulldog women's basketball are pleased to invite the community to "Breast Cancer Awareness Night" on Thursday, February 9, in Currier Gym. The Bulldogs face off against the Tigers of Occidental College in an important Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) clash for first place at 7:30 p.m. The teams will don pink T-shirts in order to raise awareness about breast cancer and to encourage support of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Fans are asked to also wear pink to show their patronage for the fight against breast cancer.

The Kay Yow Cancer Fund was founded in December of 2007 by Kay Yow, a former North Carolina State University head women's basketball coach. Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and finally succumbed to her battle with the disease on January 24, 2009. She created the fund in order to help extend and improve the lives of all those battling cancer. For more information on the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, please visit www.kayyow.com.

Thursday's crucial SCIAC bout sees both teams fighting for sole possession of first place, as they each boast 9-1 records. Occidental handed Redlands its only conference loss of the season on January 26 in a tight three-point decision. Since that loss, Redlands has rattled off three-straight victories, topping the University of La Verne, Whittier College, and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges to remain atop the standings. Occidental picked up its lone SCIAC loss on January 21, falling to the Regals of Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks by a score of 50-54.

Tickets for Thursday's game are $7 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and students 12-18 years old with ID, and free to children under 12 years old. All University of Redlands students and employees with ID are admitted free of charge.
