The University of Redlands women's water polo team earned split results at the 2012 Claremont Convergence on Friday and Saturday, registering wins against NCAA Division III foes Macalester College (MN) and Chapman University.
On Saturday, Redlands erupted for a 17-6 victory over Macalester with junior center-defender Jill Stein (Palm Desert, CA) notching a game-high five goals. The Bulldogs blew open an early 4-2 lead to make it 10-3 by the end of the second period. The Maroon and Gray continued to cruise, unleashing a season-high 17 goals en route to the program's fifth victory.
In addition to Stein's impressive scoring, freshman center-defender Hannah Ongman (Flossmoor, IL) provided a hat trick, while senior center Jaime Nippert (Gresham, OR), junior driver Moana Tuipulotu (Lahaina, HI) and freshman center-defender Haley Hollinrake (Redlands, CA) each chipped in two goals.
Sophomore goalkeeper Julie Lupfer (San Diego, CA) and freshman goalkeeper Grace Trilla (Western Springs, IL) split time in the cage, racking up 10 saves between them.
The Bulldogs finished out the tournament with a solid 12-7 triumph over the Panthers of Chapman. Redlands broke a 2-2 tie in the first frame with an impressive 8-1 run through the third period.
Nippert uncorked a game-high four netters, including the first and final scores of the game. Senior center Joy Corona (Lake Bluff, IL), Tuipulotu and Hollinrake provided two goals apiece.
Lupfer and Trilla once again patrolled the net in shifts, earning three and four saves, respectively.
The Bulldogs opened the event on Friday with top-notch opponents from the NAIA and NCAA Division I. Redlands fell to Concordia University - Irvine in a defensive battle by a score of 4-8 and later suffered a 5-19 loss to No. 8 UC Irvine.

Against the Anteaters, Corona fired off three of the team's five goals. Hollinrake and Stein offered one score each.
Redlands (6-5) faces a busy slate of competition at home this week, beginning with Siena College (NY) on Monday at 5 p.m.
