Bulldog Women's Lacrosse Silences Occidental in SCIAC Clash

Box Score

With an impressive attack, the University of Redlands women's lacrosse team kept its perfect season intact while snapping Occidental College's win streak, which dated back to the squads' first meeting on Feb. 15. On Wednesday, the Bulldogs surged out to a 9-1 lead after the first 15 minutes of action and never relinquished control, resulting in a solid 20-10 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) triumph over the Tigers.

After the teams traded goals, the Maroon and Gray erupted for nine consecutive netters during an eight-minute span. Highlighting the outburst, a trio of Bulldogs combined for six scores as sophomore midfielder KK McCaslin (Portland, OR), sophomore midfielder Jacky Craycraft (Trabuco Canyon, CA) and senior midfielder Megan Prickett (Poway, CA) each found the back of the net on two occasions.

The Tigers attempted to answer the Bulldogs' impressive start with three straight goals to end the period, with junior midfielder Sarah Kessler (Portland, OR) scoring once and dishing out a pair of assists in the process.

However, Redlands' domination continued throughout the second stanza, out-scoring the opponents, 8-6.

Craycraft and McCaslin each finished with six goals for the Maroon and Gray.

In addition, junior attack player Crystal Painter (Lake George, NY) dished out a game-high four assists.

Overall, Redlands provided a 5-for-7 performance in free-position attempts and collected 16 ground balls.

Craycraft, McCaslin and Painter also accounted for all 17 of the Bulldogs' draw controls.

Senior goalkeeper Ana Martinez (Pleasanton, CA) recorded her 12th win of the season, racking up seven saves in a complete-game effort.

For Occidental (10-2, 4-2 SCIAC), junior midfielder Isabel Osgood-Roach (Portland, OR) tallied a team-high three goals, with Kessler chipping in two netters and a trio of assists.

The Tigers' only losses on the season have been at the hands of Redlands.

Sitting atop the SCIAC standings, Redlands (12-0, 5-0 SCIAC) is poised for a spectacular finish to the regular season. The Bulldogs look forward to hosting Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Saturday at 7 p.m.
