UR Women's Water Polo Downs Caltech and Chapman in Saturday's Tripleheader

In a full day of action, the University of Redlands women's water polo team performed admirably en route to a 2-1 showing on Saturday.  The Bulldogs utilized a total-team effort in the day's first contest, capturing a solid 15-4 victory over Caltech for their fourth Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) triumph of the season.  The Maroon and Gray then headed to Chapman University to face off against San Diego State University but fell to the Aztecs by a score of 5-12.  Finally, Redlands capped off the tripleheader with a 16-11 win over the Panthers of Chapman.

Against Caltech, the Bulldogs rattled off six unanswered scored through the start of the second stanza and never looked back.

Freshman center-defender Hannah Ongman (Flossmoor, IL) led the offensive onslaught with a five-goal effort.  Senior center Jaime Nippert (Gresham, OR), freshman center-defender Deandra Van Houten (Huntington Beach, CA), junior center-defender Jill Stein (Palm Desert, CA), and senior center Joy Corona (Lake Bluff, IL) each chipped in two goals.

Sophomore goalkeeper Julie Lupfer (San Diego, CA) and freshman goalkeeper Grace Trilla (Western Springs, IL) shared time in the cage, racking up three saves apiece.

Redlands offered a solid effort against the Division I opponents from SDSU but came up short.  Nippert and Corona combined for four goals, while junior driver Moana Tuipulotu (Lahaina, HI) found the back of the net on one occasion.

Lupfer came up with an impressive 12 saves in the loss.

The Bulldogs wrapped up a full day against Chapman, firing off three or more goals in each period against the non-conference foes.

Redlands jumped out to a 3-0 advantage to start the game and maintained its lead through the final play.

Stein exploded for six goals, while Tuipulotu added a hat trick for the Maroon and Gray.  Nippert and senior driver Casey Sripramong (Glendale, CA) tossed in two scores each.

Lupfer added six saves to her total for the day, while Trilla patrolled the goal late in the game and made two stops.

Redlands (16-14, 4-1 SCIAC) welcomes the Leopards of the University of La Verne to the Thompson Aquatic Center for a SCIAC match on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
