Bulldog Women's Lacrosse Prevails over CMS, 14-10

Box Score

The University of Redlands women's lacrosse team captured a 14-10 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Wednesday night, earning its second triumph over the Athenas this season and its first road-win since March 2.  The Bulldogs earned a 5-1 advantage midway through the first period and never relinquished the lead en route to the important Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) victory.

After CMS opened the scoring with 21:19 left in the first half, the Bulldogs responded with five-consecutive scores, three of which came off of free-position opportunities.  Junior midfielder KK McCaslin (Portland, OR) led the onslaught with two netters for the Maroon and Gray, as freshman midfielder Stephanie Garrett (San Diego, CA) capped off the run with her score with 12:48 to go before the break.

By the 10-minute mark, the Athenas had cut the lead to three, but Redlands continued to pull away with back-to-back scores in a 30-second span.  Junior midfielder Jacky Craycraft (Trabuco Canyon, CA) and junior attacker Allie Hoffler (Draper, UT) both fired off their second of three goals apiece for the game.  Sophomore midfielder Emily Dalrymple (Snohomish, WA) earned the assist on Hoffler's netter with 6:47 to go in the period.

Moments later, CMS converted a goal to make it a four-score game.  But Redlands once again answered by closing out the frame with a 3-1 run, making it 10-4 at the break.  Hoffler completed her first-half hat trick in the process.

The Athenas started the second frame with a strong offensive outburst, making it 9-11 with 14:31 remaining in the game.

However, Redlands settled down to unleash three goals in the final 11 minutes, with Craycraft initiating the scoring spurt when she connected on an assist from Hoffler.

McCaslin finished with a game-high four netters, while Craycraft, Hoffler, Garrett, and senior midfielder Crystal Painter (Lake George, NY) all provided multi-goal efforts for the Bulldogs.

McCaslin also led Maroon and Gray with five of the team's 13 draw controls on the night.

Turnovers plagued both squads, with Redlands forcing eight of them against CMS.

Redlands (9-4, 5-1 SCIAC) returns to action when it hosts the Poets of Whittier College on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. at Farquhar Field.
