Solid Pitching Propels Bulldog Baseball to Stunning Victory over Chapman

Box Score

After a tough one-run loss on Saturday, the University of Redlands baseball team quickly bounced back on Sunday with a 4-1 victory over second-place Chapman University in the third of its Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Final-Four games.  The Bulldogs jumped on the scoreboard in the first inning and never looked back, as they defeated their former skipper's team for the second time this season.

After junior outfielder Connor Hancock (Burbank, CA) got on base in the first frame with a long single to right field, senior center-fielder Alex Scheiwe (Encinitas, CA) belted a double to left-center field for the RBI before moving to third base on a Panther miscue.

Junior catcher Sean McMillan (Redwood City, CA) kept things rolling with a success sacrifice fly to right field, plating Scheiwe for the Maroon and Gray' 2-0 lead.

The Bulldogs tacked on one more in the first inning when sophomore third baseman Mark Tumlinson (Anaheim, CA) crushed a single to right field with two runners on.

Despite a Panther home run midway through the contest, Redlands responded by pushing one across in the subsequent frame, when sophomore first baseman Ryan Franklin (Manhattan Beach, CA) launched a sacrifice fly to bring home junior second baseman Jordan Dresner (Etiwanda, CA).

Redlands' sophomore Michael Collins (Upland, CA) pitched a gem for his second win of the season, striking out six and scattering four hits.  He faced 33 batters in a complete-game effort.

With the win, Redlands remains in a tie for fourth place with the University of La Verne and Occidental College.  The Bulldogs (15-22, 14-13) head to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Tuesday at 3 p.m. for their last outing of the SCIAC Final-Four schedule.
