Box Score The University of Redlands women's soccer team took on the Chapman University Panthers in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) game on an unusually chilly night on Farquhar Field. Despite out-shooting the Panthers by a 20-17 margin, the Bulldogs fell short by a final score of 0-1 on Wednesday.
Both teams put in solid work in the first 30 minutes of play, with Chapman taking five shots and Redlands taking four. Two of the Maroon and Gray's shots came off of senior midfielder McKenzie Oliger (Seattle, WA).
The Panthers had a breakthrough in the 33rd minute, forcing Redlands to up the intensity.
Early in the second half, junior goalkeeper Hannah Menk (Pleasanton, CA) made four stellar saves, with members of the team stepping in to save the fifth during Chapman's immediate barrage of shots. Thanks to the relentless efforts of the backline that included seniors Faith Campbell (Bainbridge Island, WA) and Sammie Burghardt (Gig Harbor, WA), junior Erin Schlosser (Sammamish, WA), and freshman Gabriela Cavazos (Riverside, CA), the ball did not cross the goal line again.
The Bulldogs responded with plenty of offensive pressure of their own, taking 10 shots in the last 25 minutes, but none served as the equalizer.
Menk ended the night with six saves, while Oliger led the team with four shots.
Redlands (2-9-1, 1-7-1 SCIAC) looks toward redemption when it takes to the road on Saturday, October 15, to face the University of La Verne in an important SCIAC match. Kick-off is slated for 11 a.m.
