The No. 24 University of Redlands women's tennis team battled it out with the No. 15 University of Mary Washington (VA) on Saturday in non-conference action on Verdieck Courts. In a quality showdown, the Bulldogs suffered a 3-6 defeat against the Eagles.
In doubles, Mary Washington stormed out to a 2-0 lead, before sophomore Kate Dolan (St. Louis, MO) and junior Claire Bohoskey (Yakima, WA) clawed their way to an incredible 9-8(4) win at the No. 3 slot.
However, UMW continued to roll in singles by prevailing at the Nos. 5 and 4 spots to take a 4-1 lead.
But Redlands refused to go away, as freshman Sarah Ikioka (Wailuku, HI) rolled to a 6-3, 6-2 win at the top of the line-up to make things interesting.
But Mary Washington notched triumphs at Nos. 2 and 6 to put this one in the books before sophomore Elizabeth Johnson (Portland, OR) went the distance at No. 3 en route to a hard-fought and gritty performance for Redlands' final point in a 7-5, 0-6. 7-5 decision.
