Box Score

REDLANDS, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Water Polo team continues to provide a tough match-up for opposing teams and you saw that once again Saturday morning when the Bulldogs beat Occidental College 7-3 inside the Thompson Aquatic Center.

The Bulldogs snap their three-game losing skid, improving to 5-8, 2-5 SCIAC.

For the third straight game the Maroon and Grey have held their opponents to under single digits and have done it in seven of their last eight contests.

Redlands got off to a strong start in the opening quarter holding the Tigers scoreless, while putting up two tallies on the board thanks to Emma Parker (Yucaipa, CA) and Holly Kvanvig (Beaverton, OR).  Four minutes into the 2nd Quarter Oxy finally found the back of the net and then tied things up four minutes later as the game remained deadlocked at 2-2 with 2:35 to play.  Fifteen seconds later Kvanvig picked up her second goal of the game as she lifted UR to a 3-2 advantage at the break.

Across the final 16:00 minutes the Bulldogs proved tough on defense limiting Oxy to just one goal, while putting up three in the 3rd Quarter and another in the 4th.  The Tigers earned a quick strike out of the half from Kayla Lin that tied things up, but that's as close as Oxy would get as Redlands would keep them off the scoreboard the rest of the way, while tacking on another four to their total.

Kvanvig, Danielle Cary (Riverside, CA), and Kaitlynn Pierceall (Beaumont, CA) moved the game to 6-3 after three quarters and Kvanvig added the final blow with 2:03 left on a power play that gave her four for the game.  Tori Zielinski (Sunnyvale, CA) played all 32:00 minutes and finished with nine saves and a pair of steals.

The Bulldogs outshot the Tigers 21-18, was 3-for-6 on power plays and shot 33%.  Kvanvig posted a four goal, two assist effort along with a steal and a drawn exclusion.  Katrina Nielsen (Houston, TX) chipped in with two assists, two steals, and two drawn exclusions and Pierceall added a goal, an assist and a pair of steals.

Redlands now turns their attention to Division I University of Pacific when they host the Tigers at the Thompson Aquatic Center tomorrow, Sunday, March 20 beginning at 11:00am.
