Box Score PASADENA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Baseball team collected their third run-rule victory on the season Friday afternoon on the road handing Caltech a 16-3 loss.
The Maroon and Grey have now won two of their last three and move to 17-13, 7-8 SCIAC and are still in the hunt for a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament berth.
After a scoreless first inning Redlands broke out for seven runs on six hits in the second thanks to RBIs singles from Payton Walsh (Santa Ana, CA), Max Smyley (Sarasota, FL), and Jonah Advincula (Santa Clara, CA). Then with the bases loaded Mark Kirkland (Redlands, CA) then delivered with a triple down the left field line that cleared the bases opening the game up.
The very next inning UR tacked on another six runs moving the score to 13-0, but only needed three hits to do it. Jared Anderson (Gilbert, AZ) put two on the board with an RBI single to left center. After a wild pitch made it 10-0, Max Clark (Fontana, CA) cleared the bases with a double to dead center that put the game out of reach.
After surrendering three Caltech runs in the bottom half of the third, freshman Will Cell (Seattle, WA) got his first career RBI in the top half of the fourth scoring Esteban Nakashima (Riverside, CA). Then in the 7th, Redlands added to their lead with their final two runs coming off the bat of Gabriel Ceja (Long Beach, CA) who launched his first career homerun to left making it 16-3.
Freshman James Boone (Sammamish, WA) threw a complete game picking up his third win on the season. He gave up three runs on six hits, while striking out five.
At the plate Advincula (2-for-3, two runs, one RBI), Anderson (2-for-3, two runs, two RBIs, one walk), and Smyley (2-for-4, two runs, one RBI) all recorded multi-hit days.
The Bulldogs will host the Beavers for a home doubleheader at The Yard on Sunday, April 24 with first pitches slated for 11:00am and 2:30pm.
