Redlands Women's Lacrosse gets four-goal games from Beaver and Webster in loss to Whittier

WHITTIER, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Lacrosse team (2-5, 0-4) was able to put up 13 goals in their road game at Whittier College Wednesday night, but their defense allowed 20 as they seek their first conference victory.  

Emma Beaver (Bend, OR) opened up the scoring at the 12:59 mark when she took advantage of a free position opportunity. The Bulldogs and Poets would trade goals with Beaver scoring her second off a Jacqueline Landucci (San Mateo, CA) assist as UR led 2-1 with 8:27 left in the first.

Redlands scored two of the final three goals of the period as Emily Webster (Ladera Ranch, CA) matched Beaver with two goals in the first 15 minutes as the Bulldogs held a 4-3 lead after one.

In the first nine-plus minutes of the second quarter, the Poets went on a 4-0 run jumping in front by three, 7-4, with 5:53 remaining in the opening half. Mallory Morrissey (Coronado, CA) was then set up by Jenna Bradford (Anaheim, CA) for Redlands' fifth goal. The final goal of the half for UR brought them within two, 8-6, with 3:45 left on the clock as Webster earned the hat trick thanks to an assist from Cailin Walker (Portland, OR).

After scoring the final goal of the first half, Whittier scored the first two of the third quarter to reestablish a four-goal advantage, 10-6.  Then over the next 7:33 the Bulldogs and Poets traded three goals each as Natalie Schumann (Murrieta, CA) scored her first of the game, Catie Ramicone (Countryside, IL) picked up her first assist, and Beaver brought her goal total to four as it was a 13-9 Poet lead after 45 minutes.

Whittier put the game away by scoring six of the first seven goals of the fourth quarter as they increased their margin to double figures, 20-10, with 5:47 left.  Redlands, though, would score three times to finish strong. Webster added her fourth goal, Walker scored her first, and Morrisey got her second.

In goal Nicole Hutten (Hinsdale, IL) got the start and made eight saves over the course of 54 minutes. Beaver and Webster each finished with four goals, Walker had two goals and an assist, and Morrissey had two goals.

Redlands returns to SCIAC competition this Saturday, March 11 at 1:00pm inside Farquhar Field for the first time in 17 days as they play host to California Lutheran University.
