SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Redlands Men's Golf team played the first two rounds of the Carla Spenkoch Invitational Monday and after 36 holes they currently sit in sixth place with a 604 (299-305).
The Bulldogs shot the sixth-highest total in both rounds. They are 40 strokes behind event-leader LeTourneau University. Second place and host Trinity University (Texas) are 29 strokes clear with the trio of University of St. Thomas (Texas), University of Dallas, and Millsaps College all tied and 15 strokes ahead of Redlands.
Jay Wing (Riverside, CA) put together two strong rounds on the par 71 course. He shot a 141 (71-70) and sits in a tie for fifth, four strokes out of the lead. In round one he had a four-to-two birdie-to-par ratio. In the second round he had five birdies but two bogeys and a double cost him a few strokes on his final eight holes.
Cohen Gladheim (Sherwood, OR) had two 73's for a 146 as he is sits in 17th place. He birdied his first hole on Hole 10 and ended the day with birdies on his last two. In round two he added five birdies, three of which came on his final five holes as he went from four over to two over.
Jesse Pelletier (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) is 38th with a 159 (78-81). He birdied 16 and 18 in round one. In round two he had bogeys on five of his first six holes but had pars on eight of his next 11.
One stroke and a place behind Pelletier is William Rinehart (Denver, CO) with a 160 (77-83). He recorded birdies on two of his first five holes and finished with two more birdies across the final six holes. In round two he had two more pars than during round one, but he had three fewer birdies as he added six additional strokes from his first round.
Himmat Singh (Santa Barbara, CA) is 40th with a 162 (81-81). Singh had 11 bogeys through two rounds, but the problem came in that he failed to record a birdie to counter those extra strokes.
Redlands get's off the tee at 6:00 a.m. pacific time tomorrow, Tuesday, October 7 as they have 18 holes to make a dent in their respective totals.
