SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Redlands Women's Golf team returned to action with round one of the Carla Spenkoch Invitational where they sit in third place after shooting a 306 completing 18 of 36 holes.
The Bulldogs are eight strokes behind the event leader and host Trinity University (Texas) and six behind second place University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Leading the charge for Redlands individually is Savanah Christenson (Upland, CA) who shot a one over 72. After starting her morning off with two bogeys on her first four holes, she rattled off three birdies over her next four. Overall, she finished her 18 holes with five birdies and sits one back of the leader.
Chloe Phan (Milpitas, CA) is in fifth place after a first-round 75. She had a strong first 18 holes with 13 pars and a birdie as she avoided any big mistakes to keep herself within four strokes of the leader.
In 12th is Kylie McGrath (Renton, WA) with a 78. It was an eventful first seven holes as she dug herself a hole with three bogeys and two more doubles. But over her final 11 holes, however, she had 10 pars and a birdie as she shot at par after being seven over.
The fourth and final scoring Bulldog was Jizelle Robledo (Fontana, CA) in 17th place with an 81. She doubled four times on her first seven holes shooting eight over. Her final nine holes, though, saw her shoot only two over, which was aided by an 18th-hole birdie.
In 32nd place is Cecili Hayes (Vancouver, WA) with an 87. Her best stretch came between holes 12 and 16 when she had three pars and a birdie.
Redlands gets the second and final round started tomorrow morning, Tuesday, October 7 as they look to move up and try to win their first tournament of the season.
