PACIFIC GROVES, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Golf team picked up a third place finish at the UC Santa Cruz Invitational over the weekend shooting a two-day 616 (314-302) led by Savanah Christenson (Upland, CA) who won the individual title edging out a player from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS).
Christenson shot a 146 (72-74) across the 36 holes. On Saturday she had three birdies and 12 pars as she was never worse than even on the day. She birdied three of her first four holes before a string of six bogeys across seven holes. On her final six holes, though, she had four pars and two birdies, which pushed her back to two over on the day and back into the lead.
Jizelle Robledo (Fontana, CA) and Kylie McGrath (Renton, WA) each shot 157's tying for 23rd. Robledo improved by 27 positions from her ranking after round one. She had one birdie and 11 bogeys Saturday in comparison to three birdies and three bogeys Sunday.
McGrath's challenge on Saturday was two doubles, but despite shooting two more Sunday, she had an eagle on three and overall, she dropped three strokes over her last six holes.
Just behind those two was Cecili Hayes (Vancouver, WA) in a tie for 26th with a 158 (79-79). Her two rounds were almost identical with the lone differences being one more double and one more birdie Sunday.
Tying for 36th place was Chloe Phan (Milpitas, CA) after finishing her two rounds with a 161 (83-78). She dropped four bogeys off her total from day one and added five additional pars to help her to a five-stroke improvement.
Redlands will have one more warm up tournament before the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships as they host SCIAC Tournament No. 2 this coming Friday-Saturday, April 3-4 in Beaumont at Morongo Golf Club at Tukwet.
