JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The University of Redlands women's golf team made it to the finish line in a national event in Georgia at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational where they tied for seventh place with a 941 (311-309-321).
Round 1 | 8th 311
The Bulldogs sat 16 strokes behind first place and No. 1 Emory University but were a manageable 10 strokes out of second place held by No. 2 Carnegie Mellon University.
Jizelle Robledo (Fontana, CA) led the Bulldogs with a 14th place finish after 18 holes. She shot a 76 with a pair of birdies.
Behind her in a tie for 29th was Savanah Christenson (Upland, CA) and Chloe Phan (Milpitas, CA). They each shot 78's with a combined five birdies.
The final scoring Bulldog was Cecili Hayes (Vancouver, WA) in 40th. She ended her day seven over with a 79. She too had a pair of birdies. Kylie McGrath (Renton, WA) competed in the field as well and was in 68th after Round 1 following an 82.
Round 2 | 8th 620 (311-309)
The Bulldogs dropped two strokes off the total from Friday as the course continued to pose challenges for the golfers as the entire field of teams were over par after 36 holes with the average standing at 81.
Phan moved up 21 positions into a tie for eighth with a 72. Her two-day total was 150 (78-72). She had four birdies after only two during round one.
Christenson was in a tie for 25th with a 154 (78-76). She parred all but four holes with a birdie on three.
Robledo dropped to a tie for 47th with a 159 (76-83). She struggled with seven total bogeys with three being doubles.
Hayes had a 160 (79-81) after her 36 holes, which tied her for 53rd. She did birdie 16, though. McGrath dropped five spots moving ahead of Hayes into 68th following an 80. During her second round she added two birdies and eagled hole eight.
Round 3 | 8th 620 (311-309-321)
Phan finished her tournament in ninth place as one of only three golfers not ranked amongst the Top-16 individuals, she ranked 59th, in the country to place inside the Top-9. She shot a 226 (78-72-76). She made up two strokes thanks to birdies on two of her final three holes.
Christenson tied for 36th with a 236 (78-76-82). She posted three birdies and nine bogeys in an up-and-down final day.
Robledo shot a 240 (76-83-81) and tied for 53rd. Her final round saw her birdie two holes and bogey nine others.
In a tie for 68th was McGrath who moved into scoring position for the first time. She finished her weekend with a 244 (82-80-82). She battled around 10 bogeys but she never doubled.
Then in a tie for 71st was Hayes after she posted a 245 (79-81-85). On a day when she bogeyed eight holes, including three doubles, she pulled a pair of strokes back with an eagle on three.
Redlands returns back home before heading north to compete in the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) Invitational on March 28-29.
