COSTA MESA, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Golf team is in first place and six strokes clear of the field after Round 1 of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships at Costa Mesa Country Club. The Bulldogs shot a 279, the lowest single round score since shooting a 275 during the first round of the 2024 NCAA Division III National Championships.
They sit six strokes ahead of co-second place teams No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer and No. 28 California Lutheran University. Just two strokes back of them are No. 23 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) and No. 27 University of La Verne.
Jonas DeLeon (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) is the tournament leader after he shot a six under 66. He was three under par with a 34 through the front nine as he had four birdies and only one bogey. His three birdies and no bogeys on the back nine had him three under there as well. His 66 ties him for the fifth-lowest score in program history.
A big surprise performance came from Cohen Gladheim (Sherwood, OR) who has not been in the lineup since the Bulldogs Fall Invitational seven months ago, but currently sits fourth after shooting a 69, making him the 30th best performer in program history. Gladheim began his day with three consecutive birdies and had seven overall on the day.
Damon Bartells (Sacramento, CA) is tied for 10th following an even par 72. After no birdies through 12 holes, he finished his first round with two over the final six as he was two under par on the back nine.
Aaron Buck (Tualatin, OR) tied Bartells with a 72. He was even par through nine holes adding a birdie and a bogey. The back-and-fourth play continued on the back nine where he bogeyed and birdied three holes each.
Jake Yim (Lake Oswego, OR) birdied three of his first six holes, but five bogeys had him three over par through 17 holes. On 18, though, he eagled and cut two strokes off his total as he finished with a 73 and is currently in 17th.
Yim will lead the Bulldog golfers with a Round 2 tee time at 9:15 a.m. The rest of the team will tee off between then and 9:51 a.m.
