ARCADIA, Calif. – The University of Redlands men's golf team wrapped up the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships in sixth place with an 872 (290-285-297). Jay Wing (Riverside, CA) came in a tie for third as the only Bulldog inside the Top-10.
No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) ran away with the team title by 20 strokes over No. 24 Pomona-Pitzer, while the Bulldogs were 43 strokes back.
Wing shot a final round 71 to give him a 206 (66-69-71) across the 54 holes. He was two under par through nine thanks to a string of four consecutive birdies. He then had a bogey and six-straight pars through 14 holes. A pair of bogeys, though, dropped him out of first.
Cohen Gladheim took 13th with a 213 (72-69-73). He had a great start and finish Saturday, posting two birdies on his first three holes and two pars and a birdie on his final three.
William Rinehart tied for 26th with a 224 (76-73-75). It was a tough stretch across the first 12 holes with five bogeys, which put him six over, but he finished with four pars and two birdies on his final six to drop a pair of strokes and move up a couple of places.
Matthew Thorig finished 33rd with a 228 (76-74-78). After a very uneventful second round, he doubled his birdie total from the first two rounds with birdies on three and nine, but five bogeys in between cost him six strokes.
In 34th was Ben Tieu with a 231 (79-74-78). He was unable to replicate his second round success mostly down to hole six where he lost four strokes, but besides that spot he had the same number of birdies, pars, and bogeys.
The Bulldogs' season as a team will come to an end as they needed to win the SCIAC Championship title to qualify for the NCAA Championships. But Wing, who was ranked No. 20 in the country coming in, should qualify as an individual for the championships which are set to be played May 12-15 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
