ARCADIA, Calif. – Jay Wing (Riverside, CA) maintained his co-leader status after a second round 69 and helped the University of Redlands men's golf team to a second round 285, which pushed them up into fourth place at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships.
The Bulldogs are 14 strokes behind co-first place No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) and No. 24 Pomona-Pitzer (P-P). Third place is held by Occidental College who are five strokes ahead of Redlands. Chapman University is one stroke behind the Bulldogs and No. 29 California Lutheran University (CLU) is seven strokes back.
Wing is tied with a golfer from the Sagehens with a 135 (66-69). He was one stroke under par through 10 holes thanks to a pair of birdies. Over his final eight holes he dropped an additional stroke on the strength of four birdies, including a string of four across six holes.
The second Bulldog inside the Top-5 was Cohen Gladheim (Sherwood, CA) who has a 141 (72-69) after 36 holes. He sat two over par after eight holes, but a birdie on nine saw him shoot one under over his final 10, which moved him up five positions from round one.
William Rinehart (Denver, CO) is tied for 26th with a 149 (76-73). He got off to a fast start with five birdies across 11 holes, which had him two under par. He ended his day two over after a few bogeys late.
The final scoring Bulldog was Matthew Thorig (Mentone, CA) in a tie for 28th with a 150 (76-74). He avoided mistakes on 15 holes but was unable to find a few birdies, which would have dropped a few strokes off his total.
Ben Tieu (Tualatin, OR), who is in a tie for 32nd, will begin Redlands' morning on the third and final day of the SCIAC Championships tomorrow, April 25 beginning at 10:45 a.m.
