Results

COSTA MESA, Calif. – After holding the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championship lead after each of the first two rounds, the No. 13 ranked University of Redlands Men's Golf team finished second to No. 23 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS).

The Bulldogs were in the driver's seat with a plus 13 stroke advantage after 36 holes, but after shooting a very respectable third round 286, they were passed by the Stags who shot a championship-low 266, finishing seven strokes clear at the end of the afternoon.

Redlands also had to hold off No. 19 Pomona-Pitzer who were 14 strokes better on the day finishing a stroke behind the Bulldogs in third. Overall, the Bulldogs finished with an 837 (279-272-286). The final total was 33 strokes better than their 870 last year when they won the SCIAC Championship.

Despite shooting an even par 72, Jonas DeLeon (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) dropped out of the championship lead and finished fifth overall with a 208 (66-70-72). He had two birdies and a bogey on the front nine with the inverse ratio on the back nine as he never sat worse than par on the day.

Jake Yim (Lake Oswego, OR) and Aaron Buck (Tualatin, OR) finished as co-ninth place finishers. Yim shot a 71 today and ended the three rounds with a 210 (73-66-71). His final round was going very well through 10 holes as he was two under par thanks to three birdies and a bogey.  But from holes 13-16, however, he dropped three strokes due to three bogeys. He bounced back well on 17 and 18 with a pair of birdies to finish one under on the day.

Buck shot a 72 and had a 210 overall (72-66-72). On the front nine he finished two under with four birdies and a double. On the back nine he had a mixed bag with two birdies, two bogeys, and a double.

In 14th place was Damon Bartells (Sacramento, CA) who was the lone Bulldog to improve his finish from his original ranking after round two with the joint team-low score of 71. He finished with a 213 (72-70-71) overall. Like Buck he too had a hot start, shooting three under par through 10 holes. While the final 10 were not as strong, he still managed two birdies and two pars.

Cohen Gladheim (Sherwood, OR) ends his first championship in 23rd place. He shot a 78 today and finished with a 219 (69-72-78) overall. He had only two bogeys through 14 holes, but a string of three-straight from 15-17 cost him three strokes that would have placed him 20th if he had parred those holes.

Redlands will now wait for NCAA Championship selections to be announced. The championships are held from May 20-23 in Penfield, New York. 43 teams will make the field. 34 will qualify automatically after winning their conference championships, while the remaining nine come from the next highest ranked teams who did not qualify automatically.
