Round 1: 4th place – 300
The Bulldogs sat only eight strokes behind the leader No. 29 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS).
Jonas DeLeon (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) shot a one-under 71 placing third. He had a great front nine, shooting two under par thanks to pars on the fifth and ninth holes. He had two pars and three bogeys on the back nine.
Aaron Buck (Tualatin, OR) finished 11th with a 75. He shot a three over 39 on the front nine with four bogeys and a par. On the back nine he was an even 36.
William Rinehart (Denver, CO) was four over with a 76 sitting in 14th place. He battled through five bogeys across the first eight holes before posting four birdies the rest of the way, including three in the last four holes.
Jake Yim (Lake Oswego, OR) shot a 78 and was 25th. He had three-straight bogeys to begin his day, but he finished the front nine with two pars on his last four holes. A double on 16 cost him two big strokes as he had a pair of pars on either side of that hole.
Damon Bartells (Sacramento, CA) shot an 80 and sat in 28th. He shot a six over 43 on the front nine before finishing with a 37 on the back nine. Only two bogeys on the final 13 holes.
Round 2: 3rd place – 598 (300-298)
The Bulldogs shot the joint third lowest second round score of the day, which allowed them to pass Chapman University for third. They finished 18 strokes behind the winner and host Pomona-Pitzer and eight strokes back of CMS.
DeLeon finished tied for fourth with a 145 (71-74). He had a great opening nine holes, shooting one under thanks to three birdies. On the back nine he was three over after three bogeys and no birdies.
Buck gave the Bulldogs two Top-10 finishers as he tied for eighth with a 147 (75-72). He shot an even par 36 on both the front and back nine. Overall, he had three bogeys and three birdies.
Yim was the biggest mover for Redlands as he advanced up five spots into a tie for 20th with a 154 (78-76). He had three bogeys with no birdies through seven holes, but over the final 12 holes he shot one over.
Bartells also improved his finishing position, coming in a tie for 25th, three spots higher than his first round placement. He shot a 156 (80-76). He had a bogey on each of the first two holes, but three birdies over the subsequent six holes had him one under on the day. A plus five back nine, however, dropped him in the standings.
Rinehart had a rough second round. He finished tied for 29th with a 158 (76-81). Most of his struggles stemmed from a bogey and two doubles on the opening three holes of the day. Over the course of the final nine holes, he shot a two over 38.
Redlands will now have a couple of weekends off before they play the SCIAC Championships in Costa Mesa. It is a three round competition beginning on Sunday, April 27.
