INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA announced the 43 teams that qualified for the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships in Penfield, New York this week and making it as one of the nine At-Large teams was the University of Redlands. The Bulldogs will compete at Midvale Country Club next Tuesday-Thursday, May 20-23.
The championships consist of four 18-hole rounds. After the first two rounds and 36 holes, the field will be cut to the Top 18 teams and top six individuals who are not on those programs.
The Bulldogs are one of two Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) teams to make the championship along with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. Pomona-Pitzer and the University of La Verne had individual selections.
Heading into the competition the Bulldogs rank No. 13 in the country according to the Clippd Scoreboard rankings. Aaron Buck (Tualatin, OR) leads the way with a No. 20 ranking, Jonas DeLeon (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) is No. 30, Jake Yim (Mercer Island, WA) is No. 232, Damon Bartells (Sacramento, CA) is No. 302, and William Rinehart (Denver, CO) is No. 418. Redlands most recently finished the SCIAC Championships in 2nd Place after holding the lead over the first two rounds. The Maroon and Grey also had four All-SCIAC performers including Yim, Bartells, Buck, and De Leon.
Last season Redlands finished in fifth place at the NCAA National Championships, their highest finish since 2019. With a second consecutive qualification, Head Coach Jamie Zantua becomes the first coach to make back-to-back national championships since Butch Edge took the Bulldogs five-straight years from 2011-15.
