Redlands Men's Golf jumps four spots into third place at West Coast Classic

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of Redlands Men's Golf team dropped 13 strokes from their first round as they improved their seventh place standing after 18 holes with a third-place finish at the West Coast Classic Tuesday afternoon at Victoria Club.

The Bulldogs finished 14 strokes behind second place Lewis & Clark College, while event winner Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) was 23 strokes clear of the Bulldogs.

Jay Wing (Riverside, CA) went from shooting a 76 Monday to a 69 on Tuesday. He finished with a 145 placing sixth. He birdied four holes and bogeyed just one.

Cohen Gladheim (Sherwood, OR) was two strokes behind Wing with a 147 (74-73). His afternoon was more eventful with six bogeys, seven pars, and five birdies. His best stretch was across his final five holes where three of his birdies came.

Logan Benintend (Carlsbad, CA) shot a 151 (78-73) finishing in a tie for 20th. It was a clean round with two birdies and 14 pars.  William Rinehart (Denver, CO) dropped 12 spots into 73rd after posting an 84.  He was +12 on the day with a pair of double bogey's but did birdie 18.  He went 81-84 over the two rounds.     

Independent Ben Tieu (Tualatin, OR) tied for 37th with a 154 (74-80). He had three birdies across holes two and seven.

Himmat Singh (Santa Barbara, CA) was the final scoring Bulldog in a tie for 46th place shooting a 156 (78-78). He sat two over par on the day with five holes to play, but he bogeyed three of those final holes, which pushed him to six over during his final round.

The final two Bulldogs to compete as individuals were Jesse Pelletier (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) and Matthew Thorig (Mentone, CA).  Pelletier finished in a tie for 46th with a 76-80.  Thorig then went 80-82 finishing in 66th.  

Redlands heads to Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Tournament No. 1 on February 21-22.
