Redlands Men's Golf ends SCIAC No. 1 in fifth place

Results

VENTURA, Calif. – The University of Redlands men's golf team shot a 282 Saturday and were within two strokes of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) for first place on the strength of William Rinehart's (Demver, CO) 67, but a second round 312 dropped the Bulldogs to fifth place with a 594 (282-312).

Leading the charge was Rinehart with a 145 (67-78). His 67 gives him a second 67 in his career, which he shot at SCIAC No. 1 last spring. The score is tied for the 22nd lowest in program history, while he ranks as the 16th best performing golfer for the Bulldogs. He had five birdies to only two bogeys on Saturday. The big moment of his afternoon was on 14 when he had an Eagle. He was one under par through 12 holes today but dropped seven strokes over his final six holes.

Ben Tieu (Tualatin, OR) and Logan Benintend (Carlsbad, CA) both tied for 14th with 149's. Tieu's came on a 70-79. Tieu went 12-straight holes without dropping a stroke to start his tournament. He then had three birdies from 13-18. He birdied and parred one and two today, but a string of six bogeys from 3-13 cost him eight strokes.

Benintend had seven total birdies. He ran into trouble today when he was four over par after five holes and three over from 13-16. His four birdies during his final 16 holes helped keep his score down.

Jay Wing (Riverside, CA) tied for 25th with a 153 (75-78). He put himself behind early Saturday with three bogeys after six holes. He salvaged two strokes, however, with birdies on 17 and 18. The strong finish was erased through 13 holes Sunday as he sat eight over. Two birdies and three pars, though, cut into the total from 14-18.

Independent Himmat Singh (Santa Barbara, CA) tied for 27th with a 154 (77-77). He nearly cut his bogeys in half from round one to two. The reason his score did not drop, though, was the lack of birdies, which he had four on Saturday but zero today.

Cohen Gladheim (Sherwood, OR) was the sixth Bulldog golfer. He came in tied for 31st with a 155 (73-82). He had a fantastic first round that placed him in a tie for 13th after converting on three birdies. His second round was not bad with seven bogeys, instead it was the four doubles that killed his day.

Redlands will get a few weeks off before returning to the area for the Kingsmen Invitational in Moorpark on March 16-17.
