ARCADIA, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's golf team got top 10 finishes from Kylie McGrath and Savanah Christenson as they took third as a team at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships with an 899 (297-301-301), the sixth-lowest three-round total in program history.
They finished 35 strokes back of the winner and No. 10 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) and were 14 strokes out of second held by No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer.
Advancing four positions into the top 10 was McGrath who tied for seventh with a 222 (74-76-72). She put herself behind the eight ball with bogeys on two and three, but four birdies from holes eight through 14 helped her to an even par 72.
Chloe Phan, who did not play round two, technically would have finished eighth in terms of score at seven over par with a 151 (76-0-75), though, she does not have an official finishing place due to missing the second round. In her return to the course, she finished with three birdies.
The second top 10 finisher was Christenson in a tie for 10th with a 225 (74-74-77). She Had her fewest bogeys of the tournament with four, but two were doubles and she had only one birdie in comparison to her three in each of the first two rounds.
In 12th with a 226 (74-73-79) was Jizelle Robledo. She found herself seven over par through 11 holes but picked up a pair of birdies across her final six holes which kept her from losing any additional strokes.
The final scoring Bulldog was Cecili Hayes in a tie for 17th with a 230 (75-78-77). She had two birdies on her first eight holes, but a pair of three-bogey streaks cost her valuable strokes.
The Bulldogs came into the championships as the No. 11 team in the country and their lone losses this week came to teams ahead of them in the rankings. Additionally, the last at-large selection into the NCAA Championships last season was the Bulldogs at No. 15, so they are likely to earn an at-large bid. If they do qualify, the championships are in Palm Desert on May 19-22.
