PALM DESERT, Calif. – The University of Redlands Women's Golf team shot a second round 313 to take their total through 36 holes to 617 (304-313), which dropped them six spots into a tie for 16th , one spot outside the Top-15 cut line meaning the Bulldogs' NCAA Division III National Championship run has come to an end.
The Bulldogs finished two strokes behind Grinnell College for the 15th and final position. The Bulldogs' second round total was tied for 19th today.
Chloe Phan (Milpitas, CA) had a fantastic second round with a one over 73, giving her a 150 (77-73) through 36 holes. Her score moved her up 17 positions into a tie for 39th, but that was two strokes out of the final individual qualifying position. She had a great start to her day with two birdies and five pars on her first eight holes. She had a rough stretch with five-straight bogeys from nine through 13 that pushed her four over on the day, but to make up for the struggles she finished with birdies on four of her final five holes.
In a tie for 60th was Cecili Hayes (Vancouver, WA). She finished her championship with a 153 (74-79). After birding hole one, she had a string of eight bogeys over her next 10. She gathered herself and finished with seven-straight pars to end the day.
Jizelle Robledo (Fontana, CA) finished her career in a tie for 67th with a 154 (75-79). She had a clean opening 10 holes with only two bogeys. From Hole 11 through 17, though, she had four bogeys, which added five strokes to her total.
Tying for 102nd with a 160 (78-82) was Savanah Christenson (Upland, CA). She had five pars on her front nine with four on the back.
Kylie McGrath (Renton, WA) bounced back from a tough first round as she dropped six strokes off her total, finishing with a 180 (93-87). She was only six over par through 12 holes before bogeys on her final six dropped her back in the pack.
Redlands loses Phan and Robledo to graduation with two starters who are currently underclassmen returning next season.
