PALM DESERT, Calif. – The University of Redlands women's golf team sits in a tie for 10th with a 304 after round one of the NCAA Women's Golf Championships at Desert Willow Golf Course Tuesday afternoon.
The Bulldogs are 13 strokes behind the leader Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and within six strokes of Middlebury College for their fourth-straight top six finish.
Leading the way for Redlands is Cecili Hayes who shot a two over 74. She, and the rest of the Bulldogs, began the day on hole seven. Hayes finished with three birdies and 11 pars.
In a tie for 34th is Jizelle Robledo who is three over par with a 75. She had three birdies with her strongest stretching coming on her first 12 holes when she had seven pars and two birdies.
The third scoring golfer is Chloe Phan who is tied for 56th. She shot a 77. Phan began her championship with five pars and a birdie across her opening eight holes. After three bogeys, she finished with four consecutive pars.
Savanah Christenson is tied for 68th after posting a 78. She was clean through four holes, all pars, but a string three bogeys on the next four holes pushed her three over. She rallied with three pars and a birdie on her next four holes before three bogeys down the stretch cost her four more strokes.
Not in scoring position, and in a tie for 162nd, is Kylie McGrath. She shot a 93 with three pars between holes 12 and 18.
Hayes gets things started at 8:40 a.m. tomorrow morning with Redlands needing to be inside the top 15 teams to make the cut to play the final two rounds Thursday-Friday.
