DUPONT, Wash. – The University of Redlands men's golf team finished third at the Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) Invite Tuesday after finishing with a 588 (289-299) across the two rounds. Charles Hageman (Lake Oswego, OR) won the individual title after shooting 139 (68-71).
Round 1 (289)
The Bulldogs sat in second place and three strokes behind the leader Whitman College on Monday. Bulldog transfer Hageman led the way with a four under 68, which placed him second in the individual standings. His 68 places him 23rd all-time amongst the best performing golfers in program history. He had zero bogeys with two birdies on the back nine and an eagle on eight.
Only two strokes behind Hageman was Cohen Gladheim (Sherwood, OR) in a tie for third with a 70. He had six total birdies with three of them coming across his first eight holes, which helped him to his two under day.
Traditionally leading the way, Jay Wing (Corona, CA) shot a 74 and tied for 19th after 18 holes. He got off to a slow start with a pair of bogeys but finished his final 16 holes with four birdies as he shot even par after the slow start.
The final scorer was Himmat Singh (Santa Barbara, CA) in a tie for 30th after shooting a 77. Bogeys on four of his first seven holes put him five over par before shooting even par over his final 11 holes to help the Bulldogs stay connected to Whitman.
Cade Lee (West Linn, OR) also competed for the Bulldogs shooting a 78 to open up play, which put him in a tie for 36th. He had a pair of birdies on his front nine, but six bogeys and a double caused him to drop in the standings.
Round 2 (299)
The Bulldogs dropped one spot into third place after a final round 299. Host PLU advanced two positions into second place with Whitman maintaining their lead.
Hageman finished his day with a 71 for a total of 139 (68-71), which was enough to move him into first place and secure his first event win as a Bulldog in only his second competition. He dropped two strokes across his first seven holes before three birdies on his final eight moved him into first place.
Gladheim finished strong with a 73 for a 143 (70-73) across the two rounds. He finished his final 18 holes with three birdies as he never went over by more than two on the day.
Tying for 21st was Wing with a 150 (74-76). He battled from five over after nine holes to only two over after 16 thanks to four birdies, but a pair of bogeys on 17 and 18, though, ended his day four over par.
The final Bulldog to score was Singh who shot 156 (77-79). He put himself behind early, shooting seven over after seven holes. He started his back nine with two birdies to cut his total to five over, but three bogeys, a par and birdie, across his final five holes had him finish seven over on the day. Lee ended up dropping 14 spots into a tie for 50th going for a 165 (78-87). He had one birdie on the back nine, but a pair of double bogey's and a quad on No. 10 moved him down the leaderboard.
Three weeks from now, on October 19-20 in Rancho Cucamonga at Red Hill Country Club, Redlands will compete at The Clash hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in their final fall tournament.
