The University of Redlands cross country teams traveled to
Willamette University on Saturday for the 2008 NCAA West Regional
Championships. Competing against the best in the region, the
Bulldog men took 10th while the women came in ninth.
On the men's side, junior Jake Baechle (Aurora, OH) led the
team with his time of 26:16.66, finishing 38th overall. Redlands
gained three more harriers in the top 60 of 107 competitors, as
sophomore Jeremy Kalmus (New Orleans, LA) came in 48th at 26:38.55,
followed by freshman Duncan Ashby (Goleta, CA) in 51st with a time
of 26:45.79, and then sophomore Alec Fillmore (Riverside, CA) at
26:51.48 for 57th place. Rounding out the Redlands scorers,
freshman Aaron Minsk (Puyallup, WA) finished with a time of
27.32.81 for 73rd in his inaugural regional meet.
The women looked to the combination of sophomores Heather Mayer
(Spring Valley, CA) and Katie Ostrinski (Riverside, CA) to lead the
team, as they finished 36th and 37th with times of 23:31.95 and
23:31.98, respectively. Junior Kelly Luck (Boulder, CO) closely
followed in 44th place at 23:42.39, while junior Stephanie Mera
(Redlands, CA) earned a time of 23:49.17 for 53rd place out of 113
harriers. Freshman Fiona Wilhelm (Boise, ID) posted a time of
24:02.92 for 59th as the final scorer for the Bulldogs.
