RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The University of Redlands Cross Country teams finished with strong performances at the University of California, Riverside (UCR) Highlander Invitational Saturday morning with the women finishing 5th and the men 15th, while Stian Asper (St. Paul, MN) broke the men's 8K school record.
Men
Asper broke the school record by 2.8 seconds, which was set by Tucker Cargile in 2021 when he set the record at the NCAA Division III National Championships. Asper's time was 24:17.4 and he finished 25th behind mostly Division I athletes.
David Huggins (Salem, OR) also set a new personal best and moved from ninth in program history to eighth with a time of 25:05.2. It is an improvement of 5.3 seconds. He took 80th place.
Max Schaller (San Diego, CA) was 111th with a time of 25:28.8, Matthew Farnsworth (Palos Verdes Estates, CA) ran a 26:11.2 and took 159th, Carlos Arias (Redlands, CA) was 188th with a time of 26:38.7, and Brock Norseth (Sandy, UT) finished 192nd with a 26:40.5.
Women
In the women's 6K Kiera Beyer (Beaverton, OR) and Eve Mavy (Thayne, WY) came across the line one after the other as Beyer took 16th and Mavy 17th. Beyer ran a 23:24.3 and Mavy a 23:32.2.
The third Bulldog across the line was Elaine Dugmore (Hawthorne, CA) in 36th place with a 24:29.7. Madison Schaefer (Portland, OR) and Isabella Anderson (Severn, MD) were 57th and 59th with times of 25:51.9 and 26:00.7.
Redlands' next competition is Saturday, November 1 at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships hosted by Pomona-Pitzer (P-P) in Claremont.
