SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Stian Asper (St. Paul, MN) of the University of Redlands Cross Country team competed in his first NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship where he finished 65th with a time of 24:58.2. He is the first Bulldog to compete in the men's race since Tucker Cargile in 2021.
Asper was in 28th place after the first 1,000m and ran it in 2:46.6. Following a 3:06.6 in the second thousand meters that dropped him to 45th, he improved by 10 places into 35th with a 3:08.3 in his third thousand meters.
He ran between 3:09.5 and 3:21.2 during his thousand meter splits between 3K and 7K as he was 62nd heading into the final stretch. He bounced back, though, with his second-fastest split where he ran 2:57.1 that kept him from finishing outside the Top 80, which is where he would have finished had he ran a similar time to his previous splits.
Asper, a junior, holds the school record and will get another chance to qualify for the championships and improve his finish next fall in 2026.
